My husband and I, along with 2 other couples spent a few days in Istanbul prior to beginning our Greek Isles cruise. Through a friend, we were introduced to Erman and corresponded with him via email. We were able to arrange a private tour during our stay. It was wonderful from our pick up at the airport to drop off at the pier to board our ship. Erman, our tour escort and van driver did a great job in sharing their city with us. One day we would like to return to Istanbul and we would definitely use Erman again.

Hi Erman, Thank you so very much for making our stay in Istanbul so memorable! You live in a fascinating city and we would not have been able to enjoy it as much as we did without your help. The arrangements you made for us, the two guides you chose (especially Osman) for our group and even the driver were perfect! We are all back to work and will need to save our money so we can visit your beautiful country again soon. I’m glad we were able to meet you on our last day in Istanbul. As we say here in Hawaii, aloha and mahalo for your personable and efficient service. Vanda M. Kurashige

At the hotel in Izmer, I received numerous bed bug bites that took months to heal. Edit: Thank you for this feedback, actualy we have received a few more bad review about that hotel, so we are not in co-operation with them any more. Erman Altindag

The following are my residue ramblings of our Turkey trip. Turkey is wonderful. Bruce and I are so glad we went although even with poor economic times worldwide we didn't think it was a bargain trip. United fares were outrageous. BUT, TURKEY is a great place to go to and worth the cost. Long return flight was painful. Next time we'll pay whatever upgraded seats cost. Cappadocia and Aphrodisias are favorite places and Istanbul is right there at the top. As you see in the slides, Cappadocian landscapes are amazing. So unique, so sculptural, so fun, so whimsical and beautiful. Turks are tough. Up to few years ago many Turks in Cappadocia were still living in cave homes, but some cave conditions got somewhat unsafe so government changed laws and many were evicted from hillside terraced caves. Hard to imagine long ago people living in "tunnel cities" 8 stories below ground to avoid harm from multiple invading marauders. Can you imagine thousands of people doing their "business" in pots underground when enemies were above? Our cave hotel was beautiful. We even had our own hamam (Turkish bath) in our suite. Bed was carved out of stone with firm mattress atop. Breakfast was a feast so we only ate 2 times a day. Had magnificent breakfast view overlooking Urgup village and many of Cappadocia's valleys and hills. We were most fortunate to run into musicians from the famous Audubon Quartet (strings) while visiting a well known Cappadocian outdoor cave museum village. The Audubon concert, performed in a Cappadocia Greek village's cave setting, was fabulous and we continue to maintain contact with the musicians. We also had chance to meet and chat again with one of the violinists on our flight back to Istanbul. Small world. AQ has used some of our cave concert photos for publicity and media interviews so our names appeared in a Turkey newspaper. Our virgin experience up in a hot air balloon flight was worth every penny. We loved it. Had kinda hotrod pilot who took us real low; low enough for Bruce to bring back souvenir leaf from one of the trees we bumped into. Friends' balloon landed on platform in flat field; for our landing we were heading for top of ridge but instead banged into the hillside below the top. What an adventure! Aphrodisias is out of way huge Roman ruins hardly visited by anyone. So neat to wander through the weeds, ruins, and grassy areas and not run into another person. The stadium is biggest we've ever seen and in terrific shape. Still used and is the best and largest still in existence today. The Amphitheatre and Senate theater gallery (Bruce waving his monopod stick) are in excellent shape too. Most of the funding to build this site dedicated to Aphrodite was provided by a freed slave who was originally from the area. Very smart guy and businessman who made lots for Octavian, his former Roman owner, and then for himself. Mineral terrace pools of Pamukkale are close to being dried up due to heavy water diversion for earlier tourist development. Park cops constantly on vigil and shrill whistles constantly break eardrums as tourists do "no-no" things. It's beastly hot and dry in this area so the new tourist pools in higher area (now cemented ancient pools) rake in the dough. However, the mineral pools are still beautiful and one can imagine what it must have looked like before humans did it bad. One of best things about flying home...savoring cold drinks with lots of ICE! Boy, did we miss ice. Love the yeasty Turkish bread baked on hot stone stove. It's like Indian naan bread: yeasty, rubbery, balloons up with hollow inside and tastes yummy (see slide with one bite missing). Bruce and I love eating outdoors on the street (see Bruce having his usual dinner in Istanbul). Also had delicious street dinner in the dark in nice village of Selcuk. We do recommend staying in Selcuk. Nice, charming safe place with good food. Very near Ephesus and many visitor sites. Allaha ismarladik. Jackie & Bruce Erickson
